Assembly and Lubricating Pastes for Machine Repair and Maintenance

These are lubricants that contain a high degree of solid lubricant particles. They are used primarily on friction points that are subject to extreme tribological loads, such as running-in processes under boundary friction condition, very high surface pressure combined with low speeds, and extremely high temperatures. There are two primary categories of pastes:

Lubricating Paste
Based on a grease and contain a base oil plus a soap thickener. They combine the advantages of solid lubricant particles, i.e. excellent wear properties and good pressure absorption capacity, with those of a lubricating grease, i.e. good resistance to evaporation and oil separation. These pastes are very resistant to water, scouring and cooling or cutting fluids, and some have resistance to water vapor and steam. Lubricating pastes can be divided into applications of normal and high temperatures ranges.

Assembly Paste
Containing various solid lubricant particles and a mineral and/or synthetic carrier oil. They are preferred for assembly or running-in processes and if the friction point is subject to high temperatures.

Reasons to use assembly and lubricating pastes:

To facilitate assembly and disassembly of positive and friction locking connections
To prevent corrosion and protect against tribocorrosion, especially in friction point subject to oscillation and vibration
To ensure smooth and non-damaging assembly of press fit components
To provide defined ratios between tightening and preload forces in threaded connections
To support running-in processes under mixed friction conditions by quickly providing a smooth surface, thus preventing score marks
To reliably protect against wear due to high surface pressure in case of low speeds and prevent stick/sllip
To perform the function of dry lubricants or separating agents at high temperatues
To ensure easy non-damaging disassembly of components subject to high temperatures.
